Psalm 18:1-6, 30-36 Rock Climbing
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he." Deuteronomy 32:4 (NIV)
Do you know how rock climbers sleep when they are scaling a huge mountain? When darkness has swept over the land and they can no longer see the next fingerhold or toe ledge, they stop. They open up lightweight slings, firmly anchor their cot-like hammocks into the rock wall, and crawl inside the dangling tents for a good night's sleep.
Many of us are afraid of heights and cannot fathom trusting our lives to a bundle of lightweight metal and cloth thousands of feet above the ground. Yet there are times in our lives when we cannot go on. When the darkness of this world seems to overwhelm our senses and causes our steps to falter. The death of a loved one, the loss of a friendship, the dissolution of a marriage. We feel as if we might soon drop off a cliff into the depths below.
How exciting that God is our Rock! We can stop, put our anchor of faith in Him, and rest in His cradling arms. Dawn will break, light will pour across our mountain, and we will begin climbing again. Our rest can be deep because we know that God will enable us to reach the top.
PRAYER: Lord, our Rock, let us rest in You. May we give our cares and burdens into Your mighty hand. Amen.
